CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

A.   Background
Entrepreneurship is the spirit of an entrepreneur that is built aiming to bridge knowledge and market capabilities. Entrepreneurship includes the development/establishment of a new company, entrepreneurial activities are also the managerial capabilities needed by an entrepreneur.
In the last few years, the word entrepreneurship has become a conversation among universities. This is inseparable from the phenomenon where many college graduates are unemployed because the number of graduates is not comparable to the available employment opportunities. This condition encourages education practitioners in higher education to reorient the "color" of graduates who are perceived to be merely nuanced job-seekers, not job-creators.
The results of research conducted by the World Bank (1994) show that in most countries the existence of universities has a positive correlation with economic and social development. Most people also believe that higher education has an important role to play in getting a career and determining success in a career.  So every college must be aware and willing to try to seriously improve the quality of its performance.
University graduates generally still expect to be able to work in government or private institutions. The number of graduates is increasingly unbalanced when compared to vacancies or available job opportunities. This creates a higher unemployment rate. Graduates always want to be workers (employees), not self-employees, especially business owners. One effort to reduce or reduce unemployment, which comes from the increasing number of college graduates and limited employment opportunities, is to prepare students to have an entrepreneurial spirit. Realizing the importance of entrepreneurship, English Education Study Program, University of Palangka Raya incorporated Entrepreneurship into courses to improve the quality of its students.

A.      How Indonesia Australia Language Foundation (IALF) Use  English in Educational for Its Business
1.1 Indonesia Australia Language Foundation (IALF)
IALF is one of the non-formal educations in Indonesia. IALF is an educational path that aims to replace, add to, and complement formal education. This educational institution is appointed by the government based on national education standards. According to IALF official website, the mission of the IALF (Indonesia Australia Language Foundation) is to be the leading provider of language training and consultancy services in Indonesia and the Asia Pacific region. The IALF will achieve this by providing high- quality programs and services to a wide range of government and corporate clients, based on the highest professional standards and on its top quality curricula and resources. The IALF will thereby contribute to economic, social and cultural development in the region and to mutual respect and understanding between the people of Indonesia and neighboring countries.
IALF is Indonesia's main institution for English and Indonesian language training, IELTS testing and preparation, and teacher training for English teachers. Besides Jakarta and Surabaya, one of the IALF training centers is in Bali. IALF in Bali located on Jl. Raya Sesetan no.190 Denpasar, Bali.

1.2 The IALF's major activity: Teacher Training Workshop
IALF was established based on an agreement between the governments of Indonesia and Australia, so the main thing that becomes a reference is the improvement of language learning especially English in the world of education in Indonesia. Focusing on learning English, one of the IALF's major activities for educational is Teacher Training Workshop.
The benefit of implementing a Teacher Training Workshop is to improve the personal competence of teachers and increase motivation in carrying out their duties as professional educators. Not only for teachers, but IALF also provides training services for prospective teachers. By participating in training the prospective teacher is expected to be more confident using the abilities that are owned and able to explore the potential that exists to improve the quality of education.
In 2019, the 2016 academic year students of English Study Program get a golden opportunity to be able to follow the Teacher Training Workshop that focusing on “Teaching Communicative Grammar”. That training conducted at IALF Bali Language Centre 22nd February 2019. IALF has attained a strong reputation for success. The IALF also provides high-quality specialized training. How did we know that? We can know from how the training process carried out by the 2016 academic year students of English Study Program is very smooth. Of course, it is supported by a qualified manager and trainer. Indeed not half-hearted, IALF consists of great people who are talented in their fields, especially in English. The manager of Teacher Training is Caroline Bentley and the trainer is David Bradbury. They are of foreign descent who fluent in English. The trainer, David Bradbury is a trainer who experienced English experts as consultants for all the students. He also understands very well how right way to teach English. He can speak Indonesian well, but still consistent with his English and his Australian accent. He is also humorous and can make the atmosphere of the training more enjoyable. This is the main attraction for consumers to choose to study at IALF again.

(I and my friends in IALF)

After the workshop is held, all students receive a certificate in which there a signature from the manager and trainer who takes part during the training process. Because IALF is committed to excellence in education and is recognized as an influential leader in language training in Indonesia and the Asia Pacific region, of course, the certificate is given is valuable. From the training, not only the knowledge obtained but also the certificate given is certainly very useful for all participants.
In addition to trainers who have adequate abilities and give a certificate, IALF also provides adequate facilities that strongly support the Teacher Training Workshop for the 2016 academic year students of English Study Program. The room is quite spacious and comfortable, as well as the air conditioning and other supporting facilities are certainly very influential for the convenience of consumers. Some of these factors make the IALF become one of the non-formal education that is very popular among both local and foreign citizens.

B.       How do People in Bali Use English to Support Their Business
Bali is one of the provinces in Indonesia whose names are well known to foreign countries. The island of Bali is also known as the island of the Gods because of its beauty and rich culture. There is always a reason to return to Bali, maybe because of that, every day many foreign and domestic tourists come to visit Bali.
The large number of tourists who come to Bali opens up huge opportunities for traders to open businesses. Many local people become traders, one of them be a trader in the Tanjung Benoa area. Tanjung Benoa is one of the tourist attractions in Bali, a famous tourist spot & a favorite of Indonesian tourists while on vacation in Bali. The location of Tanjung Benoa is located adjacent to the tourist area of Nusa Dua.
On February 23, 2019, I briefly interviewed one of the traders in Tanjung Benoa who was a seller of fresh fruits. He is very friendly. He told me about the number of tourists made him interested in selling around Tanjung Benoa. To sell his merchandise, it is not difficult for him to use English. He said that, for traders around Tanjung Benoa, using English is not a strange thing. For him, the use of English is very helpful in selling his product.

(A picture of my friend and a fruit seller taken by me)

Besides trading, many tour guides in Bali are also able to communicate in English. When I in Tanjung Benoa I observed that the tour guide using English when they talk with foreign tourist. I also got the information from a tour guide that provided by the traveled agent we used. His name is I Nyoman Sudi Antara. His nickname is Pak Nyo. Pak Nyo is a very friendly man. It was very pleasure to be able to exchange information with him. Bali has many tourist attractions. Pak Nyo said that this a good potential for Balinese people because it can open wider job opportunities, which is to become a tour guide. He also said that people in Bali are used to speaking English directly with a native speaker, so it is natural for the traders on Bali to built communication with foreign tourist.

(I and one of tour guides, Pak Nyo)
This brief interview and observations made I think that Bali does not only have charming tourism potential. The community also understands the most appropriate way to package it. The Balinese are not "fond". They realize that they must continue to improve themselves, such as in matters of language.
One of the challenges of developing tourism in various regions of Indonesia is the language skills possessed by local communities. In some who actually have the potential, language limitations make it less able to develop quickly. This condition is what the Balinese people are trying to fix. Although not all Balinese can surf native speakers, at least they are willing to learn basic sentences in English. In this way, their communication with foreign tourist is helped.
C.       Traveling in Bali
The Entrepreneurship was held on 21-25 February 2019. During the Entrepreneurship activity, I received a lot of information and knowledge about how to apply English in an integrated manner in the real world of English field and non-English Education. I also got knowledge about the tourist attractions and cultures in Bali. Here are several destinations of tour four five days.
a.       Pura Ulun Danu Bratan
Pura Ulun Danu Bratan is one of Bali tourist attraction that offers the natural beauty of lakes and mountains. The location of Pura Ulun Danu Bratan is on the edge of Lake Bratan Bedugul, Tabanan-Bali. Ulun means edge in Indonesian while Danu means lake. So, Pura Ulun Danu means a temple on a lake. It is in a highland area, making the air around the temple area very cool.

(I and one of my favorite lectures in Pura Ulun Danu)

b.      Tanjung Benoa
Tanjung Benoa is one of the famous tourist attractions in Bali. The location of Tanjung Benoa is located adjacent to the tourist area of Nusa Dua.  Tanjung Benoa has beautiful beaches and a wide range of water attractions. It makes Tanjung Benoa as a center for water sports. I and my friends very suitable have a turtle Island in Tanjung Benoa. I really pleased to visit Turtle Island. It was an unforgettable moment. I got knowledge about the turtle, aquatic environment and animals, which endangered of their existence.

(I interacted with various animals in Turtle Island, Tanjung Benoa)

c.    Pandawa Beach
Pandawa beach located at Bali’s southern Bukit Peninsula. A sloping stretch of coastline, wide shoreline and the cleanliness of the beac
h that is maintained is the main attraction of this beach. This beach is located behind a sturdy cliff that makes it look exotic. Not only a stretch of cliffs, managers also incorporate cultural elements on this beach. There are five Pandawa knight statues placed between the cliff walls. We do not need to doubt the beauty of this beach. Clean white sand, clear sea water, and relatively calm waves will attract the attention of every visitors to swim or enjoy the beauty of the beach.

(I enjoyed the day in Pandawa Beach)

d.      Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK)
Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) is a cultural park that has Balinese characteristics. This is why GWK is in great demand by tourists, especially foreign tourist because of its thick culture. In addition, the Garuda Wisnu Kencana means God Vishnu as a symbol of the God who maintains the universe and drives an eagle.

(I enjoyed the day in Garuda Wisnu Kencana)

e.       Pura Tanah Lot
Pura Tanah Lot is located in Beraban countryside, Kediri sub district, and Tabanan Regency. The temples are built in two different places. One temple is located on a large boulder, and the other is located on a cliff jutting into the sea similar to Uluwatu Temple. Tanah Lot Temple is part of the Kahyangan Jagat Pura in Bali, intended as a place to worship sea guard gods. At high tide, the temple will look surrounded by sea water.
In Tanah Lot, I met a friendly foreign tourist. I and my friend talked with him using English. We built good communication with him.
